“From signing up for this gym in December of 2021, just coming back to San Diego after the pandemic calmed down, to now as a university graduate, leaving San Diego for good. What amazing growth I’ve experienced throughout these past 2 years, although it seems so much longer.
I’ve increased my total by a landslide, competed in more meets than I ever have, and grown in my powerlifting journey immensely through my time at Grinder. Although I’ve grown a lot physically, I truly believe the friendships, connections, and mental growth I’ve experienced are worth way more than any physical thing I’ve achieved. I’m so grateful to have gotten to know Dave and so many other amazing people at this gym. Truly a place I call home.
For me, powerlifting is more than pushing my physical limits. It’s what got me and still gets me through the tough times in my life. It saved me from depression and anxiety, from low-self esteem and low confidence, and from the pit of mental weakness that seems to be so easy to fall into. The gym has always been my safe place. One I can look to when I can’t deal with the battles in my head. One I can look to when I lose hope. It’s the place I go when everything’s jumbled, when I’m overthinking, or stressed about school, work, family, friends, and so much more. It’s taught me much and I’m grateful I found the gym and the sport of powerlifting.
I also wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the support, friendships, and company of those around me. The atmosphere of this gym is insane and I can’t express enough how great it is to be surrounded by such motivated, growth-oriented people.
I’m gone for now, but I’ll be sure to come back and visit every now and then. Thank you for everything Dave! You’ve built a legacy and life changer with Grinder Gym.” – Rob Q.
