Natural stones, unlike the uniformly shaped Atlas stones, are irregular in shape and often rough in texture. These stones are typically sourced from nature and can vary greatly in size and weight. The event tests not only strength but also adaptability and technique.
NATURAL STONES: (SPLIT TIME)
- Objective: 1 attempt to lift as many of the stones as possible in the fastest time.
- Time Limit: Typically provided a 60 or 90-second time limit.
- Platform Height: Varies, often between 36” to 54”.
- Number of Stones: 3 to 6 natural stones.
- Variation: Stone size and weight can vary significantly.
- Placement: Stones will be placed at the base of the platforms and are usually loaded in ascending order.
- Controlled Loading: The stones must be loaded in a controlled manner. If a stone falls off the platform during the attempt, the athlete must replace the stone before proceeding to the next heaviest stone.
- Split Times: Split times will be taken for each stone.
- Starting Position: Athlete starts with their hands on the platform or a short distance from the platform at the start of the event.
Equipment Guidelines
- Allowed: Belt with buckle to the back, Chalk, Knee wraps or sleeves, Fore-arm sleeves.
- Not Allowed: Belt buckle to the front or an object in the belt to provide a “shelf”. No Tacky.
Additional Natural Stone Loading Options
Natural stones are a unique and challenging implement in Strongman. Their irregular shapes and rough textures require competitors to adapt their technique and leverage different muscles. These stones can be loaded in various ways, adding diverse challenges to the event. Competitors can load onto a platform, over a bar, to the shoulder, or onto something that can then be pulled, dragged, lifted, rolled, or carried for a distance.
