Strongman Sandbag Training

Sandbags are one of the most versatile implements in Strongman. Sandbags are great for throwing, loading, and carrying in a variety of ways. You can load sandbags onto a platform, over a bar, to the shoulder, or onto something that can then be pulled, dragged, lifted, rolled, or carried for distance.

Sandbag Toss

Sandbag toss develops explosive hip power, timing, and coordination under fatigue. Athletes learn to generate force from the ground up and project an unstable implement over a bar or onto a target, simulating real Strongman event demands. This movement builds posterior chain strength, conditioning, and confidence with awkward loads. [Read more…]

Sandbag Load

Sandbag loading teaches full-body strength and real-world lifting mechanics. Whether loading to a platform, over a bar, or onto a sled or implement, the athlete must control an unstable object from floor to finish. This builds grip strength, back and hip power, and the ability to stay composed while handling shifting weight. [Read more…]

Sandbag Carry

Sandbag carries develop total-body tension, breathing control, and work capacity. Carrying an awkward, compressing load for distance challenges posture, grip, and midline stability while demanding forward movement under fatigue. This is one of the most effective ways to build practical strength and Strongman-specific conditioning. [Read more…]

Sandbag Shoulder

Shouldering a sandbag builds raw pulling power, hip extension, and upper-body control. The athlete must lap, explode, and guide the bag into position with precision and timing. This movement teaches how to manage awkward loads and transition them from ground to body — a defining skill in Strongman competition. [Read more…]

Sandbag Press

Sandbag pressing develops upper-body strength, coordination, and stabilization. Unlike fixed implements, the shifting weight of the bag forces constant adjustments through the press, engaging the shoulders, triceps, core, and grip. It bridges the gap between brute strength and control — essential for Strongman overhead performance. [Read more…]
