A shoulder workout that actually builds round, wide delts is not just more pressing. It has a structure, and that structure comes from one idea: lead with the side delts. We call it side-delt-led training, and it is the backbone of the Grinder Gym shoulder method. Here is how it works and why it builds the shoulders most lifters never get.
Lead With the Side Delts
The side delts make you wide, they are the most undertrained head on almost everyone, and they get next to nothing from pressing. So the method trains them first, while you are fresh, and gives them the most volume. Instead of grinding through presses and tossing in a few tired lateral raises at the end, you open shoulder day with the side delts and train them hard. That single change fixes more flat shoulders than anything else.
Let Pressing Handle the Front
The front delt is already worked hard by all your chest and overhead pressing, so the method does not pile on more. One overhead press on shoulder day is plenty. By not over-training the front, you leave more energy and more weekly volume for the side and rear delts that actually need it. Most programs have this exactly backward.
Train the Rear Delts for Balance
The method always includes real rear delt work, not an afterthought. The rear delts round out the shoulder, balance all your pressing, and keep the joint healthy and your posture upright. A few focused sets of rear flyes or face pulls every week is the difference between shoulders that look complete and healthy and shoulders that are overbuilt in front and falling forward.
Load the Stretch and Use Volume
The side and rear delts respond well to lots of quality volume and to being loaded in the stretched position, the bottom of a lateral raise where the arm is down across your body. The method uses cables and lean-away raises to keep tension through that stretch, and it uses higher rep ranges and plenty of sets, because the side delts handle and need volume better than heavy low-rep grinding.
Progress Over Time
None of this works for one session. It works because you run it over weeks, adding reps, sets, or a little load while keeping the technique clean and the side delts leading. The structure stays the same; the work climbs. That steady progression on movements that actually hit the side and rear delts is what turns narrow shoulders into wide, capped ones.
The Grinder Gym Way
The Grinder Gym Shoulder Training Manual is this structure in full: lead with the side delts, let pressing cover the front, train the rear for balance, load the stretch, and progress over time. Run the structure and the shoulders get wide.
Build Wider, Capped Shoulders
Stop letting your front delts run the show. Our Shoulder Training Manual leads with the side delts that actually make you wider and trains all three heads, the way we train them at Grinder Gym. Join the test group and the waitlist now.
