RULES & EQUIPMENT
Equipment Requirements
Form fitted shorts or a lifting singlets will be REQUIRED. Deadlift socks are required for some of the events. No specific shoes are required. Competitors can wear a lifting belt, knee/elbow sleeves, and wrist wraps. Wrist straps and the use of tacky are NOT ALLOWED. See rules further down the page for more details.
Rules
Each lifter will be granted 3 attempts in a standard “Round Robin” flight arrangement. Opening attempts will be given at weigh-in and can be changed until 5 minutes before a lifter’s flight. Second and third attempts must be given to the scorer’s table within 60 seconds of completion of the previous lift. A lifter may not reduce their attempt weight and can increase their weight by 1kg increments only. ONLY third attempts may be changed, up until the bar has been loaded, and up to two changes can be made.
Fourth Attempts for record-breaking lifts are permitted in our Strength Sports Competitions. The athlete should prepare his or her attempts accordingly. Unless this is a sanctioned event these attempts will only apply towards Grinder Strength Records.
Chalk is the only Gripping aid that is permitted during competition. If a clean hand is preferred for an event, the athlete must wash his or her hands with water. Spitting on the hand is unacceptable.
Hook Grip is acceptable is some feats of strength deadlift events, but is not permitted in many of our Grip Sport events.
Lifting Straps are not permitted in Grip Sport events. Wrist Wraps may be permitted, but not used in any way that assists in the lift. Elbow Sleeves, Knee Sleeves, and Tendon Wraps are permitted as support devices for injuries and as preventive measures against injuries. Referee’s judgment will be used for all support devices that seem questionable.
Judging Cadence for attempts will begin by a call from the judge and will end with a call from the judge. If an athlete makes an attempt before the judge makes the call for the attempt, the athlete will have to take the attempt again.
Judge Selection: In order to avoid possible conflicts of interests judges should be neutral to the competitor lifting. For example, significant others and relatives should not judge one another if it can be avoided at all. Judges may compete and still judge for the event, but they must not judge those they are competing with.
SCORING SYSTEM
The scoring system used is a percentage based scoring. The best performance from an event in each division is awarded 100 points. All other athletes’ in that division completing the event are divided by the best performance and then multiplied by 100 for their score.
For example if athlete A lifts 350 lbs and this is the best lift in his/her division, they gets 100 points for their lift. If athlete B of the same division lifts 320 lbs, that score is figured like so: 100 X 320/350 = 91.428.
Each athlete will have all their scores from each event added together and divided, by the number of events in the competition for their final score.
The top three best performances in each division will be awarded medals.
WEIGHT CLASSES
Classes are upper-bound by bodyweight: an athlete competes in the lightest class their weight does not exceed. The plus class (114+ men, 82+ women) is unlimited.
