It’s been about 2 years since I was last at the Grinder… also since I’ve been in the best shape of my life. The 2 months I spent there working with Dave is time I would go back to in a heartbeat. I can’t remember my exact stats but it was something like -16 pounds of fat and +12 in muscle. I was working out about 2 hours a day, eating clean, abstaining from the alcohol-fueled Pacific Beach scene that I lived in the heart of… and it was awesome. The workouts pushed me in ways I would have never pushed myself, but were filled with encouragement and camaraderie so I knew I could keep going long after I thought I was finished. The particular nutrition plan I was on was easy to follow and helped me to sustain my energy and muscle building long after I limped away from The Grinder each day. The 2 months I spent with Dave was an “all expense paid” membership, since I was chosen to be a member of a small group who tested out a new piece of gym equipment before it hit the market. I started my workouts after quitting a stressful commission-only sales job, and after day 1 fell in love with the Grinder and found it to be my home away from home. I fully intended to continue my workouts on my own dime after the product research ended, but unfortunately got sucked up into a whirlwind of full-time school and a full-time minimum wage job which prevented me from having the time and money to continue. Right now I spend my days bundled up in fleece and rain gear up in Oregon… but one day plan to return to the amazingness that is San Diego. When I get back you’d better believe I will once again join the ranks of the great people of the Grinder Gym, and work my butt off (literally) under the direction of Dave DePew and his staff.

Dave has got getting in shape down! With Dave I lost 20 pounds of fat and gained 10 pounds of lean mass. Dave provided just the right amount of motivation and technique to take me from soft and sorry to slim and strong. I have never been in better shape. Ok, The Grinder is about as legit a workout as you can find. Yes, you pay much more than your standard monthly gym membership, but if you can put your 4-6 days in a week you will see incredible results. I am rounding out week three and have lost 7lbs and a 1.25″ off my waistline. Worth mentioning… I attended 3 days my first week (due to work obligations and, frankly, I hurt like hell after the first couple workouts), 4 days my second week (due to work), and haven’t missed a day this week. I cant even begin to think what kind of results I will see as I keep going.
As a former wrestler and coach (who let garbagey food and too many beers eat away at my fitness) I’ve tried just about every workout you can imagine… slow and steady, interval training, other gym’s “boot camps” and, honestly, nothing compares the the workout you’ll get working with Dave and his staff.
To wrap it up, read through the reviews, just about everything I have read on yelp regarding The Grinder is true. Yes, the first week is grueling, yes it will hurt to sit on the toilet after your first couple leg days, but all the upsides are also true, your energy, fitness level, and self esteem are going to sky rocket and do so quickly.

I researched and compared numerous SD bootcamps on Yelp and the results spoke for themselves. I called and signed up.
“Life changing”, is the 1st thing I say whenever anyone asks me about it. I’m 2 months into the 3 month program I signed up for and I still can’t believe the results I’m getting.
After only 3 weeks, I lost 6lbs of fat, gained 7lbs of lean muscle, lost almost 6 inches overall, and dropped my body fat down 4%, in just 3 weeks!
I’m now just over 2 months in, and at my 8 week weigh-in I had lost almost 10lbs of fat, gained 15lbs of lean muscle, several inches, and my body fat dropped from 26% to 16%.
My strength, endurance, energy levels have all sky rocketed. I run around more than I ever have with my kids, have more patience, feel so much happier. And I’m getting so much more done every day because my energy lasts all day long.
What I love about Grinder Gym: There are numerous class times to choose from.
I love it that every day is different. In over 2 months of going 5 days a week, there hasn’t been one day that was a repeat.
There’s biweekly weigh-in/ measurements so you can see the results of your hard work, and talk about accountability!
The nutrition program is easy reading, highly informative, easy to shop for, and easy to prepare.
I know I’m in good hands. Dave is a Master Fitness Trainer and Licensed Sports Nutritionist. He is knowledgeable and passionate about both. He’s tough and challenges you, and it’s obvious he really cares about each person succeeding. He has high expectations, and pushes you to keep going. Every day in class I’m so amazed at how much more I can do, both strength and endurance-wise.
Dave makes sure you are performing each exercise properly, focusing on results and safety, but never making you feel like your mistakes are being singled out.
I love that so much of it is outdoors.
The music is great, really keeps you going.
There’s an awesome group of people who go. We’re all in it together and there’s a lot of support and encouragement in that.

I’ve met numerous people who continued on after their 3 months were over, because they loved it and made it a lifestyle.
I love getting up in the mornings now. I love my husband coming home and saying, “hey, skinny”, I love the way my clothes are fitting. I am leaner, have head to toe muscles I’ve never seen on myself before, and I get complements from friends and relatives about how much energy I have now.
This is life changing stuff, and am looking forward to seeing even more improvements. I no longer make “exercise excuses”. I just go and I love it. You’ve got to work harder than you ever have, and you’ve got to follow the nutrition plan, but it absolutely works.

Dave DePew’s Grinder Gym has changed my life and has definitely changed my perspective on health and fitness. I have struggled with my weight for a very long time, and in just one 12 week session at Grinder Gym, I was catapulted into the best mental and physical state I have ever been in. Nothing has ever worked this well for me….EVER!!
I have now been with Dave DePew’s Grinder Gym for just over a year now, and have been able to maintain my weightloss. Eating the right foods is another struggle of mine, and so Dave’s meal plan helps me to keep it simple. There are no guessing games or decisions on what to make for dinner, it’s right there for you….spelled out exactly!
I sincerely recommend Dave DePew’s Grinder Gym to everyone and anyone. Even if you hate to exercise or just don’t think you can do it because you are too heavy or have other physical ailments. You can go at your own pace, and then can look at everyone else as motivation to keep pushing. I have asthma and horrible knees…..and I just work through the pain because I know in the end I will be even healthier. AND, those ailments will start to fade as you get closer to your goal….believe me!
Anyway, that is my two cents…..but you have to come see for yourself, doesn’t hurt to try at least one class. You will take something from it guaranteed!

There are so many good things to say about the Grinder and owner Dave Depew. His workouts are outstanding. Team that up with his nutritional back ground and your sure to get whatever physical results you are looking for. But for me, the almost 25 pounds I lost in three moths was even the best part!
I sustained a life changing injury to both ankles in 2002 and before I meet Dave Depew I hadn’t ran in almost 7 years. I had simply giving up on that being a part of my life. Dave was the first person that stopped telling what I couldn’t do and showed me what I could do! He modified the workouts that my ankles physically couldn’t handle and made sure that I got the results I expected.
What I didn’t expect is the was the confidence, self esteem, & life long friendships I got from attending his program. I found that it wasn’t just Dave and his staff that cared about my success. But every person working out on the Grinder wanted me to succeed and helped anyway they could.

Nothing else keeps me in better shape than The Grinder workout. I am in my 40′s and have never felt better. If you are a female in your 40′s you understand how difficult it is to get the waistline smaller and this workout does it!! The first week was TOUGH but the results happened so fast that I was addicted. The workout combined with the nutrition advise from Dave DePew changed my life. If you are working out 4-5x/week and NOT seeing the results you really want and deserve I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to The Grinder.

I never thought I would enjoy waking up early to workout at 6am, but I am hooked on the Grinder Gym 6am workout classes!!
Before starting at Grinder Gym my only form of exercise was running. I wanted to improve my half marathon time so I turned to yelp to look for a gym to join. After reading all the 5 star reviews for Grinder Gym, I decided to try it out. I signed up for the 60 day Ripped 60 program. I thought I would just be going to group workout classes, but on my first day I found out that there was also a meal program and bi-weekly measurements and weight-ins. I was more sore the first week than I ever thought possible, but I quickly started seeing results. The workouts are never the same from day to day, there are excellent trainers who encourage you, and there’s always loud music to help get you through the hour long workout. I also liked that the meal plan was easy to follow.
Results: At the end of 60 days my body fat dropped 7%, I lost 11 lbs of fat, I lost over 4 inches around the waist, and I actually gained some muscle. My half marathon times are the fastest they’ve ever been.
Once the 60 days ended I immediately signed up to continue at Grinder Gym. I’ve been going there for over 4 months now and I try to make it there for a workout almost every day. I’m no longer on a strict meal plan, but I got in the habit of eating well. They have classes in the morning at 6, 7, and 8am and later in the day at 4, 5, and 6pm so you can almost always fit it into your schedule.
I definitely recommend Grinder Gym – it will only take an hour of your day and you will see amazing results, so give it a try!
