    • Lifting the thigh upwards
  • Lateral rotation of the hip

    • Bending the torso forward

Attachment:

  • Origin:
    • Transverse processes of T12-L5 vertebrae
    • Bodies and intervertebral discs of T12-L5 vertebrae
  • Insertion:
    • Lesser trochanter of the femur

Iliacus

Movement:

  • Flexion of the hip
    • Lifting the thigh upwards
  • Lateral rotation of the hip
    • Rotating the thigh outward

Attachment:

  • Origin:
    • Iliac fossa of the ilium
    • Ala of the sacrum
  • Insertion:
    • Lesser trochanter of the femur (merges with the tendon of the psoas major)
